Charlie Sheen is winning once again, after securing a role in the Grindhouse produced sequel, Machete Kills. Twitter has been buzzing after director Robert Rodriguez posted ‘I just cast Charlie Sheen in #machetekills as the President of the United States! ‘
Sheen will follow in the footsteps of his father Martin, who famously played President Josiah Bartlet in Adam Sorkin’s The West Wing. Whether Charlie’s commander–in–chief will be as democratic as Martin’s will be subject to opinion, but Charlie seems to be preparing for his role already by tweeting ‘My fellow Americans!’ and a picture of himself and the director.
The news that Sheen has signed up for the role will come as a surprise for followers of the actor. He recently had stated that he was quitting acting once his stint in the series Anger Management had ended, proclaiming ‘This is my swan song… There’s a lot more out there to do than make-believe, you know?’
What changed his mind is not clear, but he will join an already bulging cast consisting of Mel Gibson as an eccentric billionaire, Zoe Saldana, Sofia Vergara and Johnny Depp’s rumoured squeeze Amber Heard. They will link up with stars from the original 2010 film Machete, with Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez and Danny Trejo all set to reprise their roles.
The sequel, which is due for release in 2013, centres on vigilante Machete being hired by the U.S Government to thwart Gibson’s billionaire from launching a deadly missile in space.
A third film is in the pipeline and, according to the end credits of the first film, will be entitled Machete Kills Again.
