tv Review

The Marvel industry has flourished in the past few years, starting with Iron Man and continuing with the likes of The Avengers, Thor and Captain America.

Now enter a new TV series, Daredevil, a Netflix original.

After the underwhelming Agents Of Shield, this is the show fans of the famous comic books should welcome with open arms.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Daredevil, I’ll give you a brief introduction to the story.

Matt Murdoch (Charlie Cox) is a lawyer by day and masked vigilante by night. After losing his sight at a young age, Murdoch has spent years tuning his senses to serve himself and those around him. This “hero” is a breath of fresh air compared to those who rely on metal suits, gamma radiation or even magic hammers to fight evil. Murdoch is a slightly more realistic alternative – an average human being showing the world what a real hero can be.

Without divulging too much – I heavily encourage everyone to watch the show, comic book fan or not – I will give you a small insight into the new series.

The opening episode jumps straight into the action with an amazing scene that will blow viewers away. Before the title sequence even begins, you already want to see more of this beloved Marvel creation.

With amazing talent such as Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, and Eldon Henson as friend and peer Foggy Nelson, the series plugs all areas perfectly. The character development is interesting and gripping, and theatrics usually reserved for a silver screen blockbuster will leave you pining for more. The narrative runs perfectly from episode one to thirteen, and the climax is worth waiting for.

I class Daredevil up there with the likes of Game Of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Vikings and Black Sails, and I would encourage everyone to go and experience it for themselves.

My only criticism is that the show presents a complete tone-shift from what Marvel fans are used to, but this isn’t an entirely negative thing – dark and broody seems to be on trend when it comes to broadcast media.

Please, please, please go and witness this for yourselves. If you’re a Marvel fan, you’re in for a treat!

Daredevil is the comic book TV series people have been waiting for, and not for one second does it disappoint.
