It protects, defends, and saves. It looks great and feels even better. This is my review of the Urban Armor Gear Aero case for the Samsung Galaxy S6.
The new Galaxy phones from Samsung are their most stunning yet, but that amazing design comes at a price: durability. Gone are the plastic sides and dimply removable back of the past, and in are metal sides and glass panels. The glass throughout the S6 and its relatives is Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4, which lends increased durability.
Despite this, I still absolutely would not feel comfortable using an S6 without a case. That’s where Urban Armor Gear (UAG) comes in to play. UAG has been a case manufacturer for quite some time now, and they have always been towards the top of my favored list. They combine rugged, comfortable design and feel with great drop protection.
Including other UAG cases, the UAG Aero for the Galaxy S6 has military rated drop protection. It sports a ruggedized design with fake bolts and reinforced corners. The color selection is awesome, with anything from a smoky clear back to a bright orange one. With my case in particular, I opted for the Aero color (a grayish-blue).
Installation was simple, it’s a normal snap-and-go case where the device slots right in and you’re done. The feel of the case with the device installed is great, the curved back edges make a great place to grip. In addition, the buttons are all covered yet still tactile. The power button has a rough texture, making it easy to locate without looking. When you want to adjust volume, just feel for the gentle curve of the all-in-one button cover.
Port cutouts on the case are perfect. Nothing was covered, not even a mic. I can fit every single micro USB cable that I own, and every headphone that I own, into the device through this case. The speaker isn’t covered, nor are the camera and flash assemblies.
Build quality seems to be above par for a plastic/TPU case, with no seams noticeably visible. The case is sturdy and does not feel like it’s about to fall apart in my hand.
There is an included plastic screen protector. It doesn’t go edge-to-edge, but the LCD is covered. The reasoning behind this? The sides of the S6 are slightly curved. I’ve opted to not install it, both since I have a tempered glass one on the way, and because the case has a lip along the screen to protect it from face down drops in the first place.
Overall, this is a great case option for your device. I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for some coverage on their new S6, especially in the color I was sent to review. If you want to pick it up, it’s linked right here for $35 on UAG’s website.
