Kate Bush has announced her first tour in 35 years. Well, it’s not really a ‘tour’ in the modern sense of the word, more like 15 concert dates at the Hammersmith Apollo in August and September this year, but it’s got Bush fans freaking out the world over (the singer’s official website crashed this morning).

The singer has only toured once before in 1979, and live performances have been few and far between – this series of gigs will mark Bush’s first live performance in 12 years. So, it’s understandable if there are probably quite a few people running around their gardens in red sheets right about now.

Bush and her always experimental and often strange musical style have remained extremely popular with fans ever since her breakthrough single ‘Wuthering Heights’ topped the UK charts in 1978, when Bush was 19 years old. This is in spite of the large gaps of time between each album release (attributed to Bush’s perfectionism) and the fact that she has chosen to stay out of the spotlight for most of her career. Her lack of willingness to tour has been attributed to many things including a fear of flying, and the death of Bill Duffield, Bush’s lighting director, in an accident during her one and only tour in 1979.

Following the announcement of this year’s tour on the official Kate Bush website – “I hope you will be able to join us and I look forward to seeing you there”, the singer wrote – it has become clear just how popular Bush and her music still remain. Tickets for the shows at the Hammersmith Apollo will go on sale on March 28th at 9.30 am, and although there are 15 dates to choose from it seems likely they’ll go pretty quickly, so nab yours while you can.
