he studio behind Mafia II is to be relocated, following a restructuring of the company, with some staff layoffs expected.
Originally reported by Eurogamer, the restructuring will see the 2K Czech team moved from 2K Prague’s facility to Brno whilst also transferring development resources from Prague and Brno to 2K’s headquarters in Novato, California.
2K UK later provided a statement to the site, confirming the reports. It read: “We have relocated and consolidated our 2K Czech team from our Prague facility to centralise resources in our location in Brno. Additionally, we are transferring some development resources from Prague and Brno to 2K headquarters in Novato, CA.”
“This transition will both strengthen the integration of the 2K Czech team with our award winning development teams, and better align cross-functional business practices.”
Some staff layoffs could be expected as a part of the restructuring, with 2K saying: “As part of this realignment, we are adjusting our staffing levels, resulting in the elimination of some positions.”
A sequel to 2010’s Mafia II, Mafia III, has been rumoured to be in development at the 2K Czech studio for Xbox One and PS4 consoles.
