Grand Theft Auto V is the biggest selling entertainment product of 2013, beating the likes of Skyfall, The Hobbit and Django Unchained.

rand Theft Auto V continues to smash record after record and now it has been crowned as the biggest selling entertainment product of 2013.

Rockstar Games’ open world action-adventure game has beaten off other entertainment mediums such as DVDs and CDs. GTA V has beaten the likes of Skyfall, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Les’ Miserables, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Fifa 14, Django Unchained, Twilight and Man of Steel.

From data courtesy of GfK Chart-Track, ERA and The Official Charts Company, and compiled by MCV,  GTA V sold 3.67 million units whilst Skyfall sold 2.96 million units. Call of Duty: Ghosts, which for a while reigned the entertainment charts, dropped to fifth place selling 1.99 million units.

Fifa dropped one place from last year, coming third selling 2.65 million units whilst Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey sold just over 2 million units, earning fourth place. Other games such as Battlefield 4 came 15th with 838,869 units sold and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag came 20th with 776,888 units sold.

GTA V launched on September 17th and earned worldwide critical acclaim for its immersive world and engaging story. It made over $800 million during its first 24 hours on sale and two days later broke $1 billion in sales. It beat The Last of Us as the biggest digital release on the PlayStation, outsold its predecessor GTA IV and broke 7 Guinness World Records.

Earlier this month it was voted as Game of the Year at the Spike TV VGX Awards and the Golden Joystick Awards in November.
