After many months of rumours and leaks, Nintendo have finally announced Pokémon for the Switch. Releasing worldwide on November 16th of this year, Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu! and Pokémon Let’s go Eevee! takes older players back to a familiar region and welcomes new players to the place where it all started.

Whilst not considered a core game, Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu! and Pokémon Let’s go Eevee! will take a lot of inspiration from those games in the core series. It will be based upon the 1998 release Pokémon Yellow and will be set in the Kanto region, but it won’t quite be as some players remember. Love it or hate it, it will of course feature the updated graphics of the past few Nintendo DS releases but the emphasis of the new game seems to be the connectivity with Pokémon Go (2016).

Pokémon Let’s Go and Pokémon Go look very similar in terms of graphics and it seems as though you can bring the Pokémon caught in Pokémon Go over to your Pokémon Let’s Go save file, provided they are from the Kanto region. It is unknown how many Pokémon will be in the game, but it will be very interesting and nostalgic for a lot of players if the number is limited to the original 151.

One of the biggest changes that players can expect is the inclusion on co-operative play. Previous games have included online features that allowed you battle and trade online with other players but now you can explore the region, catch Pokémon, and battle with a friend.

Pokémon Let’s Go will be controllable by using just one joy-con and motion control, which will take some getting used to for those of us who prefer to play handheld. You can also play Pokémon Let’s Go by using the new Poké ball plus controller. In the shape of the iconic Poké ball, the Poké ball plus controller again features motion control as well as lighting up and playing sounds. When catching a Pokémon with the Poké ball plus players will also be able to feel the Pokémon moving inside.

Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee along with the Poké Ball Plus the are set to launch on the Switch on November 16th. No price has been announced yet, but the pair will most likely be available as a bundle
