Max Payne (2001), is coming to PlayStation 4, according to an article on the PlayStation European blog earlier today.

Developed by Remedy Entertainment for PC, PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2001, the Max Payne franchise rights were later sold to Take Two, parent company of Rockstar Games.

PlayStation 4 has seen PlayStation 2 ports from Rockstar Games previously, with the most recent being Canis Canem Edit, aka Bully (2006) and Manhunt (2003), in addition to GTA III (2001), GTA Vice City (2002) and GTA San Andreas (2004).

According to Game Spot, PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida said Sony will be working “tirelessly” to see more PlayStation 2 classics released for the PlayStation 4. Yoshida also said that the emulation technology, which upscales PlayStation 2 games to 1080p, is not cheap, which is why the games are often priced around $10.00 – $15.00 (UK prices for Rockstar PlayStation 2 titles on PlayStation 4 have been £11.99).

The PlayStation European blog lists the release date for Max Payne on the PlayStation 4 as 22nd April 2016.

  1. Downloaded this the other day…one of my favourites when it first came out, be interesting to see how well it has held up!!

  2. I'm thinking about getting it, although I've got to complete both the Bully and Manhunt ps4 ports before moving on to this. I hope they consider releasing Max Payne 2 as well for the PS4. A lot of people didn't like it but I always had a soft spot for it.
