The President of Sony Worldwide Studios says he “hopes” that Rise of the Tomb Raider will come to PlayStation 4.
Eurogamer recently interviewed Shuhei Yoshida and he commented on the controversy surrounding the announcement of Crystal Dynamic’s sequel to Tomb Raider being exclusive to Xbox.
“It was very interesting the way Phil Spencer said, what we are saying is, in holiday 2015 Tomb Raider is exclusive to Xbox,” said Yoshida. “So it’s open to interpretation. But still, we didn’t anticipate something like this.”
Yoshida also said that he wasn’t aware of the exclusivity deal before the announcement and was as surprised as everyone else.
“I hope the game will come out eventually on PS4,” he added. “But how can I tell? Other than that cryptic message by Phil Spencer.”
Asked if he was aware of the reaction from fans, he said: “Oh yeah. Anything Microsoft announces, people complain to me as well. In general there are lots of people who are angry, who emotionally reacted to the announcement.
“Some people created an image saying negative things, like the end of Tomb Raider. It was a very emotional response.”
The news of Rise of the Tomb Raider’s exclusivity has dominated the news the past week. When it was first announced, fans took to social media to vent their anger and disappointment.
Crystal Dynamics’ Head of Studios, Darrell Gallagher, took to Tumblr shortly after to defend the decision.
A few days later, Xbox head Phil Spencer revealed that the exclusivity was actually a timed exclusive but refused to reveal how long for.
