The PlayStation 4 has sold over 6 million units worldwide, Sony announced today.
The next-gen console, which launched in November last year, had already sold 5.3 million units as of February 8th, making it the top selling console in the United States.
Now the PS4 has passed the 6 million unit mark following the console’s launch in Japan a week ago.
According to the post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony say that in the US, more than 90% of PS4s are online whilst 3.6 million live broadcasts, and more than 56 million spectate sessions have been seen via Twitch TV and Ustream.
Sony wrote: “We love the enthusiasm that all of you have had for the PS4 since launch, and we can’t wait to share more great games, experiences and features with you soon. Greatness awaits!”
Sony have been dominating the battle of the next-gen consoles with Microsoft’s Xbox One since their launch, also in November. The PlayStation 4 was the top-selling console in November also and sold 166,000 more consoles than Xbox One in the UK, making £181.8 million compared to Xbox’s £144.5 million.
