[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t’s one of the biggest battles for Game of the Year ever, critics and gamers worldwide are spilt between the two as The Last of Us and Grand Theft Auto V continue to battle it out to win the Game of the Year award from different media outlets.
The Last of Us has scooped up another Game of the Year win, this time being awarded by game news outlet Kotaku. Voted by Kotaku staff, each person picked three games with their top pick earning four points, second pick earning two points and third pick earning one point.
Naughty Dog’s survival thriller beat Rockstar Game’s open-world action-adventure by just three points.
The Last of Us had previously lost out to GTA V at the Golden Joystick Awards and the Spike TV VGX Awards for Game of the Year, instead settling for Best PS3 Game, Best Story, Best Studio and Best Actress and Actor.
Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag IV came third whilst the highly acclaimed Gone Home PC game earned an impressive fourth place. One of the most surprising votes was just one point for Crystal Dynamic’s Tomb Raider reboot, earning 11th place, which gained numerous nominations for Game of the Year and was critically acclaimed by media outlets worldwide.
Tomb Raider suprisingly achieved less votes than games such as Saint’s Row IV, Papers Please and Pokemon X & Y.
Both The Last of Us and GTA V look to continue the effect they’ve had on the gaming industry with both studios releasing story DLCs in 2014.
