[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he launch of Grand Theft Auto V continues to be one of the most successful ever, having now added two more broken records to its impressive catalogue.
The game has officially outsold its predecessor Grand Theft Auto IV – released in 2008 – in just three weeks, according to Chart-Track.co.uk.
GTA IV sold over 25 millions copies worldwide. Precise figures for GTA V have yet to be released, but Chart Track confirmed that the game has passed the lifetime sales of GTA IV and has now become the 12th biggest selling game of all time in the UK.
GTA V is the UK’s fastest-selling game of all time, having sold over 1.57 million units on its launch and then 2.25 million copies five days following its release.
The previous record was held by Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops. That game sold 1.41 millions units on day one and 2 million units by day five back in November 2010.
Released on September 17th, GTA V broke $1 billion in sales by day three beating Call of Duty: Black Ops and 2012’s box office hit The Avengers.
GTA V also broke the PSN digital download record, officially become Playstation’s biggest digital release ever, according to Playstation’s Blog.
The blog confirmed that the franchise has beaten Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed apocalyptic thriller The Last of Us which was released in May.
Despite facing setbacks on it’s launch day with the PSN copy, the game also edged out stiff competition from the recently released Fifa 14, GTA IV and Diablo 3.
