Wembley Stadium, famous for so long as the home of football, is getting ready to host something completely different – well almost – this month. The highly-rated film-documentary Bobby, which tells the story of England legend Bobby Moore, is getting its world premiere at the legendary arena.

It will all take place on a Monday evening, May 23 to be precise, with doors opening at 7.15pm and the screening getting underway at 8.15pm.

FA chairman Greg Dyke said: “It is totally fitting that Wembley should host the premiere. The film is a poignant tribute to one of this country’s true football greats. Our job now is to honour Bobby’s memory by doing everything we can to put a platform in place for future England success.”

‘Success’ is the key word. This event is part of the 50th anniversary of England winning the game’s ultimate prize – the World Cup – in 1966. There could be no more fitting tribute than for Roy Hodgson‘s current crop tasting glory at this year’s European Championships, but that’s another story. Bobby brings to life the heyday of English football, with archive footage – some never before seen – ensuring that the movie hits the back of the net on the big screen. with names as diverse as Pele, Ray Davies, Gazza and Russell Brand all featuring, it’s no wonder that the media have lapped it up. If you haven’t done so already, you can watch the Bo66y trailer here.

Invited guests to the premiere (lucky so-and-so’s) will take their seats directly in front of the hospitality suite that was named after Moore himself. It is around where the England skipper was presented with the Jules Rimet Trophy (as it was then) by the Queen on that memorable day.

For those of you who haven’t received an invite, tickets are currently on sale at www.wembleystadium.com/Events at £15 each. Bobby will go on general cinematic release on May 27 and is available on Blu-ray, DVD and digital download from May 30. You can pre-order through Amazon right now.
