It’s fair to say that it’s good to be Tom Hardy right now. More critical acclaim, baby number one on the way and his pet pooch Woody was given the VIP treatment at the recent Legend premiere. So what next for the man who seemingly has everything? A certain Mr Bond, perhaps?

Yes, he’s now joined the shortlist to fill Daniel Craig‘s ultra-shiny black shoes alongside names such as Idris Elba and Damian Lewis. Incidentally, Elba has recently been issued an apology by Bond writer Anthony Horowitz after the author said he would be “too street” for the role.

As for Hardy, when asked if he’d be up for the part he responded by saying : “I think anybody would consider doing Bond, wouldn’t they?” And is he a fan of the franchise itself? “Of course I am, yeah. Totally, absolutely.”

As there’s many a female out there whose pulse quickens at the mere mention of his name, it’s pretty safe to assume that future Bond movies would totally, absolutely have a strong fanbase if he were to get the gig. However, Hardy’s previous roles don’t exactly scream suave and sophisticated – after all, would you want to get on the wrong side of Charles Bronson, Mad Max, Bane and the Kray twins? We’re pretty sure that even MI6’s finest wouldn’t be able to wriggle his way out of that one.

According to the bookies, Hardy is now joint favourite with Elba, although at 5/2 Lewis remains the fancy. Clearly in a cynical mood when asked about this, Hardy said: “Bookie’s favourite? This is to do with gamblers, isn’t it? I don’t think it’s got anything to do with any genuine entertainment business. If I actually stand a chance of playing James Bond, we’d obviously not talk about it.”

If you’re wondering who to put your money on, here’s a couple of articles from Roobla that might point you in the right direction. Spectre is out on October 26.

  1. No doubt Hardy would be an excellent choice to play Bond…personally though, I would love to see Idris Elba in the role.

  2. I think it's a shame that Clive Owen's never been offered the role, but he's still only 50 so it's not too late.
