How to Train Your Dragon 2 walked away with the top honours at the 42nd Annie Awards in Los Angeles, making the movie a serious contender for this year’s Best Animated Feature Academy Award. Since 1972, the Annie Awards have celebrated the accomplishments of animated features (including having more emotional depth than any Arnold Schwarzenegger movie), with previous award winners including:  The Lion King, Toy Story, Shrek, Finding Nemo, Up, and Frozen.

The How to Train Your Dragon franchise is based on the book series (surprise!) by Cressida Cowell, and chronicles the adventures of a young Viking named Hiccup and his pet dragon Toothless. So far the film has also won the Golden Globe award for Best Animated Feature. The original How to Train Your Dragon won the same Annie Award in 2011, but lost out to Toy Story 3 at the Academy Awards. A third film in the series is set to be released in 2017.
