Just so you know, I like to think I have quite an eclectic DVD collection. The Big Lebowski, Planet Earth, Roobarb, it’s all there. Yet however many times I might high-five myself for this so-called ‘achievement’, it’s nothing compared to the deliciously diverse cast that’s been assembled for the animated feature, Animal Crackers: Sylvester Stallone, Sir Ian McKellen and Danny DeVito, anyone?
Yes, you read that correctly; Rocky, Albus Dumbledore and The Penguin all under one roof. Surely the surest of sure-fire hits since All About That Bass.
Other signatures now dry on contracts include those of Patrick Warburton, Gilbert Gottfried and Raven Symone. The story is the brainchild of Scott Christian Sava, who has co-written the script with Dean Lorey and will also share directorial duties with Tony Bancroft.
Have you ever read a story, or even come up with one of your own, and imagined whose vocal talents would fit the parts like a glove were it to become a bona fide cinematic production? Well that’s exactly what happened to Sava, only in this case the dream became reality.
“When I was writing Animal Crackers I had specific voices in my head. Certain characters I wrote with actors in mind,” he said of his tale about a circus family who discover that eating from a box of mysterious crackers can turn them into animals. “Horatio was always Sir Ian McKellen. Brock was totally Patrick Warburton. Bullet-Man could be no-one else but Stallone! To find out that each and every one of these actors have agreed to come on board this film and bring these characters to life… I’m flipping out.”
Blue Dream Studios and the China Film Group are well ahead of the game though (yes, even this supersonic website), as production has already started. A release for summer 2016 has been slated.
