A new image purporting to be from behind the scenes of Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World has surfaced online, and appears to be our first proper look at a member of the film’s dino cast.

Director Trevorrow has been gradually spamming us with images from the set via Twitter, but this new image first popped up on Instagram, and according to Screen Crush ‘was later found by a fan site who confirmed its authenticity’.

Anyhow, check this out.

Looks like what we’ve got here is the animatronic head of a Velociraptor, encased in some sort of specially designed metal muzzle to keep it from chomping off any limbs. Or, the muzzle could just be to hold it together while the glue dries.

And that’s the really exciting thing about this image; the Velociraptor is real (to a certain extent) with nary a pixel or green screen to be seen. We’re liking the recent cinematic revival of practical effects as opposed to CGI (see this behind the scenes glimpse from the new Star Wars movie). Of course, CGI is still expected to feature heavily in the film, but it’ll be exciting to see it blended with ‘real’ practical effects as well.

Jurassic World will hit our screens on June 12th 2015.
