Philip Seymour Hoffman has been found dead at his New York apartment. It has been reported by the New York Post that the 46 year old was found dead by a friend after suffering an apparent drug overdose.

Seymour Hoffman was an internationally acclaimed actor, winning an academy award for his portrayal of In Cold Blood novelist Truman Capote in 2005’s Capote. He was also known for his roles in Doubt, The Big Lebowski, Moneyball, and recently The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

In 2006, the actor admitted that he had had problems with substance abuse after graduating from drama school, but got clean after checking himself into rehab. He reportedly had a ten day rehab stay after a relapse in 2012.

Nothing about the circumstances surrounding Seymour Hoffman’s death has been confirmed as of yet, however the New York Post is reporting that the actor was found with a needle still in his arm, and it seems safe to assume at this stage that his death was probably drug related.
