[dropcap]M[/dropcap]arvel’s head honcho Kevin Feige has confirmed that time is up on Fox’s ownership of the rights to Daredevil, meaning they revert back into the hands of Marvel, or should that be Disney?
Indeed, Fox have failed to get a film made about everyone’s favourite blind lawyer before the rights lapsed. This means that the man of Hell’s Kitchen is moving back home to Marvel. Of course little is known on when we will be seeing Daredevil back on the big screen, though we can’t help but speculate discussions are happening on that subject as we write this.
Daredevil’s first appearance on screen was back in 2003, but he hasn’t been seen since. That film starred Ben Affleck as the man without fear and was directed by Mark Steven Johnson (Ghost Rider). Sadly, though the film was not a hit and Fox have struggled to get another film made ever since.
They had come close to rebooting the title when Joe Caranahan (The Grey, The A-Team) jumped aboard to direct a version before the rights lapsed. Sadly time ran out for Carnahan who took to twitter on Tuesday to say, “I think my idea for a certain retro, red-suited, Serpico-styled superhero went up in smoke today kids.”Caranahan had released an impressive “sizzle reel” trailer expressing the tone and style of his proposed film, which you can see here.
We’ll have to wait to see if the character is gifted his own film or if he will turn up in another Marvel staple, but it’s exciting news to see the iconic character given another shot at the big screen.
