Disney and Marvel studios have revealed the official plot synopsis for Iron Man 3. This time billionaire inventor Tony Stark will face ‘an enemy whose reach knows no bounds’.
The eagerly anticipated sequel began shooting in North Carolina this June. It will be Robert Downey Jr’s fourth film as Tony Stark, a genius-billionaire who creates a suit of armour that he utilises to protect earth and become a superhero. The controversial actor has previously played Stark in 2008’s Iron Man, 2010’s Iron Man 2 and 2012’s Marvel mash up The Avengers.
As revealed by ComingSoon.net, Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?
The new film introduces a new enemy to the superhero saga; The Mandarin, played by the brilliant Ben Kingsley (previously seen as Tamir in the latest Sacha Baron Cohen film, The Dictator). Historically, Marvel comics portray The Mandarin as a super-villain who is also a tremendous athlete and highly skilled martial artist. To add to his top trump card, he’s supposedly a brilliant scientific genius, maybe even a match for the great Tony Stark? We’ll have to wait and see.
Meanwhile, the first Iron Man 3 trailer is due to appear online on October 23. The ensemble cast is rounded off by Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall and James Badge Dale.
Iron Man 3 will hit the big screen in IMAX 3D on May 3, 2013.
