To celebrate this year’s Red Nose Day we’ve compiled a list that honours the cinema’s best red heads. We’ve picked ten actors and actresses who have a mane of fire and huge talent to boot and celebrate their career highs and lows…
Amy first appeared on our screens in 1999 film Drop Dead Gorgeous and since then has starred in over 25 big screen releases. After her recent turn in the Oscar nominated The Fighter, there will be more to come from Amy in the future.

9. Geena Davis
Geena Davis has been on our screens since 1982 when she starred in Tootsie with Dustin Hoffman. With a varied career in film, she is best known Thelma and Louise, starring another of our red heads, Susan Surandon. This film propelled Davis into stardom.

8. Philip Seymour Hoffman
After starting his career on stage and moving on TV series Law and Order, Hoffman’s film career began with bit parts in some major motion pictures. After appearances in films like Twister, Boogie Nights and When a Man Loves a Woman, Hoffman then scored the lead the screen in the 2005’s Capote.

7. Julianne Moore
With a film career that started with early nineties thriller The Hand that Rocks the Cradle, Moore has starred in over 47 films. She has such a warm personality on screen that each role is mesmerizing.

6. William H. Macy
Beginning his career in the theatre, Macy started not one but two theatre companies with David Mamet. His first big screen role was in Fargo and since then Macy has built one of the most respected CV’s in film.

5. Bette Midler
The Divine Miss M, as she is often known within the business, is one of the very few who has made being both a singer and an actress a success. Her first album was released in 1972 and her first feature film, Down and Out in Beverley Hills in 1986 after several TV movies and bit parts. Arguably her best known performance came in the guise of CC Bloom in 1988’s Beaches.

4. Susan Sarandon
A fiery red head who is known for her acting almost as much as she is for her political views and involvement, Sarandon is a keen supporter of several charities. After appearing as Janet in 1975’s The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Sarandon then went on to star in severals films until her biggest break came in 1991 with Thelma and Louise, catapulting Sarandon in the big leagues.

3. Shirley MacLaine
MacLaine’s long and established career in Hollywood began at the age of 21 with TV films and bit parts, until 1960’s The Apartment. Musical drama Sweet Charity affirmed MacLaine as a star in 1969. She is highly regarded, comical and beautiful. Even now, as she approaches 77, she still lights up the screen.

2. Nicole Kidman
After being Mrs. Cruise for eleven years since their romance was ignited in 1990’s Days of Thunder, Nicole Kidman has created a great career in film. She has also treaded the boards on Broadway.
