This week, there have been interesting developments in the battle of the Snow White franchises. A new interactive trailer has been released for Snow White and the Huntsman, while Disney’s proposed fairytale update, The Order of the Seven (which would have starred Saoirse Ronan and been directed by Michael Gracey), has been scrapped.

Snow White and the Huntsman stars Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth, and will be released in the UK on May 30th. The recently released interactive trailer from Universal includes a bit of extra footage and allows viewers to click on pop-up links which lead to behind-the-scenes videos, trivia, and the opportunity to chat about the film with other fans.

Meanwhile over in Disneyland, the decision has been made not to go ahead with their own take on the Snow White tale, The Order of the Seven. The film would have been the third Snow White adaptation of recent times, the other two being Snow White and the Huntsman and Mirror, Mirror starring Julia Roberts (not to mention the television series Once Upon a Time).

Although Disney has been working on Order of the Seven for almost ten years, the decision to scrap the film does not come as much of a surprise. Some have suggested that Disney decided to stop pre-production simply because the market was already flooded with cinematic Snow Whites, but in truth the issue is less creative, and more financial. The company has had to make massive cutbacks recently after their grandiose sci-fi action flick John Carter bombed at the box office and it looks as though Order of the Seven has been swept away on a tide of collateral damage.

Still, with the release of Snow White and the Huntsman looming ever closer, dedicated fans of the pale-skinned princess will certainly not go hungry for fairytale delights this summer.
